The Nagoya Protocol
Does your research involve genetic resources and/or traditional knowledge associated with such resources? If so, you may have an obligation to follow the Nagoya Protocol.
The Nagoya Protocol is law in Sweden. Those who use genetic resources or traditional knowledge in their research or product development have an obligation to ascertain whether the Nagoya Protocol applies. The responsible researcher must thoroughly examine whether the Nagoya Protocol applies, obtain relevant documentation, and document, preserve and report.
How to follow the Nagoya Protocol
You can read about how to follow the Nagoya Protocol step-by-step in the University’s guidelines.

Report in DECLARE
As a researcher, if you have an obligation to follow the Nagoya Protocol, you must report due diligence in the EU’s digital tool, DECLARE.
The first report is made after the first instalment of a research funding grant has been received, but no later than when the final report is submitted, or at the end of the project if no final report is to be submitted. This applies regardless of whether it is public or private research funding and even if no product development takes place. The second report is made during the final stage of the development of a product.
Please note that confidential information entered in DECLARE is visible to others at Lund University. Therefore, do not make information available that could impede an exclusive right before such a registration has been made.
Contact Research Services to be entered in Lund University’s DECLARE account and be able to report.
