The 13 January was Arrival Day – the day when Lund University welcomes the new international students for the spring semester. A total of 767 students have been admitted to the university for studies in Spring 2025. 447 of them came to the Arrival Day but more will arrive in the next few days/weeks.

Students from around the world

The new international students come from 64 different countries, representing a diversity of cultures and backgrounds. The largest groups come from Canada, Australia, France, USA and Germany.

The exact number of students who will begin their studies in Lund will not be known until after the course registration at the start of the semester.

On Arrival Day for the spring semester, most students welcomed are exchange students and a number of Erasmus+ Joint Programme students. All international master's programs start in the autumn semester. LTH and the School of Economics and Management host the largest number of exchange students, while the Faculty of Humanities and Theology offer the most courses specifically tailored for international students, known as SAS courses. The most popular SAS course is Introduction to Scandinavian Culture and Society (SASH55), which this year has accepted 59 out of 127 applicants.

Students welcoming students

In Spring 2025 nearly 200 students are engaged as international mentors to welcome the new students. About 100 of them will be active during Arrival Day, playing a key role in providing personal service and support to the newcomers. Through the international mentor program, international students are connected with already-established students, which is an invaluable resource when settling into a new city and culture.

Arrival Day: A smooth first day in Lund

During Arrival Day, students are guided from Kastrup Airport and Lund Central Station to the Ingvar Kamprad Design Center (IKDC). At the IKDC, they check in, receive keys to their student accommodation, get help activating SIM cards, and can meet with various organizations that assist with settling in Sweden. There is also the option to purchase bed linen, such as duvets, pillows, and sheets.

The program includes practical information, an introduction to the university’s resources, and insights into student life and Swedish culture.
