Cultural networking event and SMASK

A logotype with the text SMASK on a pink background.

A week-long event from 19-23 May will bring together 45 representatives from EUGLOH universities to collaborate on cultural issues in teaching and research. Participants will attend from Tromsø, Porto, Hamburg, Alcalá, Munich, Szeged and of course Lund. We have also invited speakers from Singapore and Melbourne.
"Culture is an important part of the University’s soul. In May, around 40 colleagues from other European universities will come here to discuss cultural issues. All staff are invited to join the closing networking event."

The week forms part of the work being carried out within the framework of the University’s cultural strategy, which is now known as the Lund University Cultural Forum for Art and Science. During the week, we will discuss and delve into topics such as object-based learning, cultural competence and creative approaches to gender equality. We will have tours of, among other venues, our museums and the Humanities Lab and visit the Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts to gain inspiration from their ArtCollab project – a joint venture between Malmö Theatre Academy and other LU faculties.

On Friday morning, 23 May, all interested parties are invited to participate in a cultural networking event, on this occasion at Lund City Hall. We will showcase examples from the University’s various collections and present two of the projects that have received seed funding to integrate arts and culture into education and research. The event will conclude with a panel discussion on the role of university museums. Everyone is very welcome!

On Saturday 12 April, the fantastic Riks SMASK competition took place at Malmö Live. SMASK (Swedish Music Academies’ Song Contest) is a music competition organised by the music colleges in Sweden. Malmö Academy of Music hosted the event this year. Each higher education institution contributes two songs, and the event is a joyful and humorous parody of Melodifestivalen – Sweden’s precursor to the Eurovision Song Contest. I was part of one of the juries and enjoyed a large live orchestra accompanied by dancers, sequins, key changes and surprising costume changes. Super talented music students composed, arranged and performed the funny but also very good “schlager” songs. Don’t miss SMASK next year! Having such a professional department as Malmö Academy of Music within the University is a true honour.
