Support for the recruitment of international staff

Three persons sitting and discussing over a table.

The recruitment of international staff is a complex area and it is important for the University to manage correctly in order to avoid serious legal consequences, particularly in the area of migration.

There is a considerable demand for support on these matters and fortunately there is extensive support for this at Lund University. At the Division of External Relations is the University’s international coordinator Erik Kvist who, along with HR specialist Karin Fälth of the HR Division, manages HR-related migration law issues and give a high level of support to recruiting managers, HR officers and administrators involved in international recruitment.

A corresponding level of support is only available at a few other higher education institutions in Sweden.

Proactive national work

Erik and Karin also work proactively nationally for migration legislation that promotes the University’s internationalisation. Good collaboration with the Swedish Migration Agency is in line the University’s work on Global Dynamic Engagement (GDE) and the importance of the University being a strong and positive force in the global arena.

New supplementary support for organisational units

In mid-January, Erik and Karin held a well-attended information meeting about a new procedure description regarding the employment of third country nationals, which has been drawn up to supplement the currently available support. The aim of the new procedure description is for the University to strengthen legally sound, secure and consistent processes relating to migration.

The HR Web provides support on international recruitment for managers, HR officers and administrators involved in international recruitment.
