Already early on in the year, annual leave needs to be planned on the basis of the manager’s responsibility for ensuring the function of the organisational unit, and the wishes of the employees. Pursuant to the Annual Leave Act, an employee is entitled to at least four consecutive weeks of annual leave between June and August.
Saving annual leave
All accrued annual leave is primarily to be used during the current year, but if you are entitled to more than 20 days of paid annual leave, you may choose to save one or several of the excess days for a subsequent calendar year. Thus in each calendar year, you must take out at least 20 of that year’s annual leave allowance.
The reason why employees are allowed to save annual leave is to give them the opportunity to take a longer period of leave in a subsequent year. The maximum permitted is a total of 30 saved days of annual leave (there are particular transitional rules for employees who had more than 30 saved days of annual leave of 1 January 2018, entailing that the excess days must be used before 31 December 2022).
Annual leave for teaching staff
Annual leave for teaching staff is regulated in our local collective agreement on Working hours for teaching staff whereby the entire annual leave for the current year is set, in principle, as one consecutive period starting on the first Monday after Midsummer. Therefore, teaching staff do not normally have to apply for annual leave.
Apply in Primula
Other employees apply for annual leave in Primula. This also applies to doctoral students who, with reference to the nature of doctoral studentships, should preferably apply for their entire period of annual leave to run from the Monday after Midsummer.
