It is estimated that 3,000-3,500 new international students will arrive at Lund University this autumn to study. A total of 1,394 international students arrived during Arrival Days (15-16 August). The Arrival Days are followed by the Orientation Weeks and both of these events together engage 250 LU employees, student workers and around one hundred mentors.

The Arrival Days aim to welcome international students to Lund University, provide them with information and ensure that they are settled in before the start of their studies.

Some 4,000 international students are admitted to the University, and it is estimated that 3,000-3,500 of them will actually start their studies at Lund University. The new international students come from over 100 countries around the world to start their studies at Lund University. The largest groups of students come from Germany, the USA, the Netherlands, France, China and Japan. This year, 53 students will be coming from Ukraine.

The Arrival Days kick off two Orientation Weeks, which include information sessions, excursions, concerts and social events to give students a chance to settle in before the semester starts.

During the Arrival Days, staff and mentors were ready at Copenhagen Airport to welcome the newly arrived students. At Lund Central Station, the students were met by mentors who drove them directly to AF-borgen. At AF-borgen the students checked in, received keys and were then taken to their accommodation.

The reception of international students during the Arrival Days and Orientation Weeks engages over 250 employees at Lund University, including employees from External Relations, LU Accommodation, all the faculties, Campus Helsingborg, the Student Health Centre, the Multifaith Chaplaincy, the Academic Support Centre and the University Library.

Student workers and the one hundred or so students who volunteer as international mentors during the Arrival Days play an important role in welcoming the new international students.

The nations, unions, other student organisations and external actors such as AF Bostäder, the City of Lund, Skånetrafiken and the Police also contribute to giving the international students a good introduction to their studies, student life and life in Sweden in general.
