The City of Lund and Lund University have approved a joint strategy to foster the local innovation environment and business community. This means that efforts to attract companies and talent and to bolster Lund’s international position are now being stepped up.

“It sends out a strong signal that we speak with one voice. Sweden ranks high in terms of patents from academia. Lund University is third in Europe and tops the list in Sweden. To succeed in further strengthening the innovation climate and provision of future expertise, a holistic approach highlighting Lund’s strong points is required. We will continue this work and draw the world to Lund,” says Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström.

The strategy enhances the strengths of the University and the city and focuses on key elements of Lund’s unique innovation environment, often referred to as the “innovation district”, for example:

  • MAX IV and ESS Lund has an exceptional advantage with its research facilities as catalysts for innovation and business creation.
  • Lund Innovation District A distinct, common profile and marketing approach will be developed for the innovation cluster, which extends from the centre of Lund to the newly developed area of Brunnshög in the north-east part of the city.
  • Future expertise Strengthening the provision of expertise through closer tie-ups between education and business. International talent recruitment will also be increased by further developing the International Citizen Hub.
  • Strategic partnerships The city and the University will develop stronger external engagement with the business community, including by creating joint research and development projects and facilitating technology transfer from academia to industry.
