Terence Karran has his primary research focus on the international comparative analysis of academic freedom. He has for instance undertaken a national survey on academic freedom for the UK’s University and College Union which formed the basis for the UCU’s submission to the UNESCO/ ILO Committee of Experts on the Application of the Recommendations concerning Teaching Personne, alleging that the UK Government was in non-compliance in respect to the 1997 UNESCO.
