As part of the University’s annual academic ceremony in January, Jonas Hafström, former chair of the University Board, and Professor Anne L’Huiller will receive Lund University’s gold medal for their exceptional contributions to the University.

Lund University can award silver and gold medals to people who have made important contributions either to Lund University or to society as a whole. The first time the gold medal was awarded was in 1967, when it was awarded to Tetra-Pak founder Ruben Rausing.

Anne L’Huillier is a leading international researcher, and the jury for commendations who award the medal want to “honour a researcher who has contributed to strengthening Lund University’s world-leading research in a unique way.”
“Anne L’Huillier is a physicist and Lund University’s most decorated researcher. She has been awarded the Wolf Prize in Physics – popularly known as the little Nobel Prize for Physics – and the Nobel Prize is really the only thing left for her to win,” says Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström.

Jonas Hafström was the chair of the University Board between 2015 and 2023 and “has shown an exceptional enthusiasm for all aspects of Lund University and its students. Thanks to his large network of connections, he has opened doors for the University, in this country and around the world.

“As chair of the University Board, Jonas Hafström has shown enthusiasm for Lund University and always stood up to represent the institution with a diplomatic intuitive flair and to an extent that are light years beyond what might reasonably be expected,” says Erik Renström.

The formal commendation is as follows:
