The www.lu.se website has been audited by DIGG

A hand and a keyboard.

DIGG, the supervisory authority for access to digital public service has audited www.lu.se among many other websites. The audit indicated a few points for improvement but was good overall. A plan will now be developed for how the deficiencies on lu.se are to be rectified.

DIGG (Agency for Digital Government) carries out an annual inspection and review

The supervisory authority, DIGG, carries out annual inspections and reviews of a number of websites and applications. The inspection is based on criteria set by the EU Commission. There are two types of audit: detailed review and basic review.

The University’s website was audited using a basic review, which entails an automated review without prior notification.
Detailed reviews entail manual auditing of the digital services, about which the organisations concerned receive prior notification. Both detailed reviews and basic reviews can take place at any time and other websites within the University may also be audited.

Accessibility deficiencies may lead to fines

The detection of accessibility deficiencies may be via complaints from website visitors. When a complaint or review results in DIGG noting accessibility deficiencies on a website, a report is sent stating that these deficiencies must be rectified. If the deficiencies are not rectified, this may lead to a fine.

Lund University has a large number of websites for several different target groups and may be audited again.

What can those involved with content do?

If you are responsible for content or publish content on a website, you can affect how well the legal requirements are fulfilled. Remember to continually declutter and remove information that is not essential and make sure there is an up-to-date accessibility report.

If you are working on a website in Drupal, there is an opportunity to register for a themed session in February 2023, organised by Web Communications. The themed session will cover accessibility reports and how to create them. Register via the Drupal guides webpage.

The accessibility pages on the Staff Pages contain information, tips and advice on how to increase accessibility. You can also gain access to a user account on Funka’s learning platform, Funka Academy, where you can take courses on accessibility to increase your expertise in the area.

What can managers do?

By using a preventive approach and prioritising work on accessibility, managers can prevent their own organisational unit from ending up in unforeseen and resource-intensive situations. Managers can work proactively by:

  • Thinking through and monitoring the web content for which your organisational unit is responsible i.e. websites, digital systems, documents and multimedia.
  • Continuously ensure that the organisational unit declutters and removes information that is not essential.
  • Review your organisational unit’s web organisation and allocate resources to work on accessibility of web content.

Increase knowledge and expertise in the organisational unit, for example by obtaining access to the learning platform, Funka Academy, which offers a selection of courses on the subject, including courses for managers.

The Staff Pages provide detailed information and guidance for managers, and you can always consult the accessibility team for support in your work.

Contact the accessibility team for guidance and support

The accessibility team offers support on university-wide accessibility issues and provides user accounts for the Funka Academy. You are welcome to contact the accessibility team via email at tillganglighet [at] kommunikation [dot] lu [dot] se if you have any questions or are interested in gaining access to the learning platform.
