Central Administration in transition

The Central Administration’s aim is to offer the best possible support for the University’s operations. In order to do this, we need to continuously review the organisation and working methods so that optimum support is provided while balancing the budget. Based on this, a number of changes are being made.

One example is that the major part of the support relating to contract education will be moved to the faculties. The present proposal for the organisation is the result of a close dialogue on how this can be done in the best way. A hub with a coordinating role will remain within the Central Administration. It is proposed that the hub will be placed in Student Affairs and that the change will be implemented on 1 April 2025.

Another change concerns how the university-wide communication organisation can be strengthened. In the spring, an external investigator submitted a proposal for a more united organisation for communications officers with a change in working methods based on a user perspective. The communications director is now looking at how the review’s proposals could be applied and how the division is to prioritise. This is being done in discussion with the University Management and the heads of communication at the faculties. A complete proposal for the division’s organisation and remit will be finalised by 31 December.

The University’s focus on international impact has increased the need for a division with a clearer remit for global engagement. There is now a proposal for how this division and its remit could be organised. A new head of division will be recruited, and the new division will be in place in the spring of 2025.

The Central Administration’s task is to constantly ask how we can manage, simplify and improve to best satisfy the needs of the core activities. To increase understanding of the organisational needs, heads of division and units have interviewed heads of department. One prioritised issue that quickly became apparent involves finding the right level of ambition for our own development projects and for the requirements set for us by the wider world. We are also working on an introduction for new employees that gives a better understanding of the administration’s role and how the best possible support can be provided.

With these initiatives, we are striving to create a more efficient and user-friendly Central Administration that can meet Lund University’s future challenges.
